A total of 132 road accidents were recorded in Albania during April 2026, leaving 194 people injured or killed.

Albania recorded at least 132 road accidents during April 2026, with a total of 194 people injured or killed, according to the latest figures published by INSTAT. The data show that road accidents continue to be one of the country’s most serious public safety concerns, NOA.al reports.

According to the official report, a total of 414 road accidents were recorded across Albania during the January–April 2026 period. This represents a slight increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 413 accidents were registered.

During the first four months of 2026, the total number of people involved in road accidents reached 585, compared with 586 during the corresponding period a year earlier.

The INSTAT report highlights that driver behavior remains the leading cause of road accidents. Statistics show that 89.4% of all accidents were the result of human error, confirming that negligence, speeding, and traffic rule violations continue to be the main contributing factors.

The data also reveal that the age group most frequently involved in accidents is 25 to 34 years old, accounting for 27.3% of all recorded accidents during the reporting period.

Regarding the days of the week, the highest number of accidents occurred on Wednesdays and Fridays, each accounting for 16.7% of the total. Thursday recorded the fewest accidents, representing just 9.8% of all cases.

According to the report, the most dangerous time period for road accidents remains between 7:00 p.m. and midnight. During this six-hour interval alone, 30.3% of all accidents recorded in April took place, highlighting the increased risks associated with evening and nighttime driving.

Tirana continues to be the region with the highest number of road accidents in the country. During April alone, 60 road accidents were recorded in the capital, resulting in 78 injured or deceased victims.

Lezha ranked second with 15 accidents and 24 injured persons, followed by Vlora with 14 accidents and 25 injured persons, NOA.al informs.

Meanwhile, the regions of Dibër and Berat reported the most positive figures, as no road accidents were recorded there during April 2026.

The latest statistics underline the ongoing challenges facing road safety in Albania and the need for increased awareness, stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, and greater caution among drivers.
