President of the European Council António Costa will embark on a five-day official tour of six Western Balkan countries from June 1 to June 5, 2026, aimed at strengthening political dialogue and supporting the region’s European integration process.
One of the key stops on the tour will be Albania. On June 2, Costa will arrive in Tirana, where he is scheduled to hold official meetings with Prime Minister Edi Rama and President of the Republic Bajram Begaj.
During his stay in the Albanian capital, the President of the European Council will also visit students at the Tirana Campus of the College of Europe. The visit will conclude with a joint press conference alongside Prime Minister Rama, scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
Ahead of the regional tour, Costa delivered a clear message to the Western Balkans, emphasizing that the European Union remains committed to enlargement and that the time has come for tangible results.
“My second tour of the Western Balkans sends a clear signal: the European Union’s commitment to the region is real, and so is the enlargement perspective. The opportunity is there, and the moment is now. It is time to deliver concrete results,” Costa said.
The tour will begin on June 1 in Sarajevo, where Costa will meet members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, Željka Cvijanović, and Željko Komšić. He is also expected to meet Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers Borjana Krišto.
Following his visit to Tirana on June 2, Costa will travel to Skopje, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.
On June 3, the President of the European Council will visit Pristina. There, he will meet Acting President Albulena Haxhiu, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as well as leaders of Kosovo’s main opposition parties.
On June 4, Costa will continue his regional tour in Belgrade, where he is set to meet Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Speaker of Parliament Ana Brnabić.
Later that evening, he will travel to Montenegro to attend an official dinner hosted by Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović in the coastal town of Tivat. The event will also mark the 20th anniversary of Montenegro’s restored independence.
The highlight of the tour will be the European Union–Western Balkans Summit, which will take place in Tivat on June 5. The summit’s central theme will be “Shared Prosperity and Stability of the European Union and the Western Balkans.”
Discussions are expected to focus on the next steps in the region’s EU integration process, economic cooperation, security, energy policy, and the geopolitical challenges facing Europe.
At the conclusion of the summit, a joint press conference will be held at 3:30 p.m. President Costa will address the media alongside President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.
Costa’s visit is being viewed as an important political signal for the region at a time when the European Union is seeking to accelerate the enlargement process and strengthen its ties with the countries of the Western Balkans.
