NATO has strongly condemned what it described as reckless behaviour by Russia after a Russian drone struck a residential apartment building in Romania during an attack on Ukrainian infrastructure near the Romanian border.
NATO spokesperson Allison Hart said the alliance views the incident as another example of the risks posed by Russian attacks taking place close to the territory of NATO member states.
“NATO will continue to strengthen its defences against all threats, including drones,” Hart wrote on social media.
She also stated that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte remains in close contact with Romanian authorities regarding the incident and the latest developments.
NATO’s reaction comes after a Russian drone crashed into a residential building in the Romanian city of Galați, causing a fire and injuring civilians. The incident has heightened concerns about security along the alliance’s eastern flank and the risk of the war in Ukraine having consequences beyond Ukrainian territory.
