Tirana, NOA.al – The President of the Republic and at the same time the Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Bujar Nishani while chairing today’s meeting maximally praised the up to the present work of this Council and its members by stressing that: “This constitutional and independent Institution functions only on the bases of the Constitution and the law.”

In today’s meeting President Nishani pointed out that there have been unfounded accusations and attacks during recent days by various political actors against the work of the High Council of Justice.

President Nishani encouraged the High Council of Justice members by stating that they do not connect their performance to ruling political majorities, to the work of the Assembly, or government and neither to any other particular institution.

The Head of State urged the High Council of Justice members to continue the work in respect of the values, in respect of the existence and functioning of the independent and non intimidated by any political side, and also to the great responsibility they hold in front of the public opinion and Albanian citizens, – a responsibility which is daily increasing – in order to establish standards which will be irreversible in the upcoming days and times.

“The High Council of Justice has based and has organized its entire activity and has functioned solely on the basis of the law, of the right bestowed by this law to fulfill and meet its constitutional and legal mission and obligation.” – stressed President Nishani.

The Head of State while bringing as a positive example the procedure followed for the first time in selecting the judges of the Administrative Court of Appeals, emphasized that the High Council of Justice introduced first the new and transparent model of pointing regarding the evaluation of judges, by adding that the Council has taken important and positive decisions regarding the preservation of the independence of the judiciary, of the moral and professional integrity of the judges and that it will continue to remain on the same height.

In conclusion of his address the President of the Republic stated that he is convinced that the members of the Council “will provide a very great contribution first of all the sensitivity of the public opinion and its expectations and above all to the Judiciary, which needs a powerful monitoring, strong reforms, encouraging of the positive model and for harsh penalizing of the negative models.”
