The Wi-Fi project aims to expand across the country

The telecommunications giant in Albania, ALBtelecom has already started offering free Wi-Fi service in public spaces in Tirana and is in the process of testing it in various locations of the country. Any subscriber who has a laptop, a tablet or a smart phone can connect to the Internet for free in parks, streets, public places, practically wherever he goes in the capital.

This service was promoted during a ceremony in Qyteti Studenti (the Students’ City), where attending were the Mayor of Tirana Lulzim Basha and the CEO of ALBtelecom Erkan Tabak.

During this event, the CEO of ALBtelecom Erkan Tabak extended his thanks to the Municipality of Tirana for the opportunity and permission given to ALBtelecom for installing the wireless data transmissions to offer the Wi-Fi service said that this national project which was first launched in Tirana shall continue in every city in Albania.

"Today in the capital we have active Wi-Fi service in most public places and university environments. We hope that by the end of May we will be able to have it all over Tirana. Providing this service for free two hours a day comes to the aid of all the young people who cannot buy the service, and of course, it is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility. We have declared 2013 as ‘The Year of Safe Internet’ and want to offer safe internet to Albanian families and young people”, said Tabak in his speech at the press conference.

This project is a very good example of multifunctional modern cooperation and service combination of ALBtelecom and Eagle Mobile infrastructures. The Wireless Internet infrastructure uses top quality equipment of modern industry. This project of ALBtelecom requires a complex engagement which is made ​​possible thanks to a qualified and well trained staff and combined teams cooperation. It aims to make the Internet available to every citizen in every city in Albania.

All Eagle users can benefit from this free public service in the most popular areas. The Internet speed is quite high and has very good capacity to easily handle the peak. ALBtelecom Wi-Fi can be used on any device that can support this technology, laptop, tablet or smart phone. Every Eagle user can benefit from it by sending a text message on 55 544 WIFI and receiving the 8-digit PIN code to use Wi-Fi. The code may be used simultaneously to three Wi-Fi devices and is not limited only to one device or SIM card. For users this technology also offers the advantage of battery saving. With the combination of ALBtelecom infrastructure and the powerful 3G technology, Wi-Fi ALBtelecom is the largest Wi-Fi network in Albania. Tests in different cities are close to completion.
