




ALBtelecom Company celebrates 100 years since the time of establishment as Telegraph Administration. On this occasion, a grand gala was organized attended by hundreds of guests.
Present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Sali Berisha, President of Çalık Holding Ahmet Çalık, Minister of Innovation and Information Technology Genc Pollo, General Director of ALBtelecom and Eagle Mobile Orhan Coşkun, as well as many other members of Cabinet, Members of Parliament, representatives of ministries and institutions, non-governmental organizations, businessmen and media representatives in Albania and beyond.
Since the day when the telecommunications industry took the first steps and up-to-date telecommunications in Albania has changed tremendously. While the first telephone call in Albania was made in 1921, nowadays everyone aver the age of 15 in Albania spends an average of 10 minutes on the phone every day. In 1946, there were 3 telephone channels connected to neighbouring states, while today Albania gets millions of airtime minutes from overseas and ALBtelecom carries 30 Gbps Internet traffic per day. In 2007, ALBtelecom provided only 2,000 broadband lines, whereas now it has reached 200 thousand.
Upon Eagle Mobile’s market entry in 2008, mobile communication in Albania opened a new era. The number of ALBtelecom ADSL service subscribers in August 2008 was 1500 users, while now this number has exceeded 70 thousand users. ALBtelecom has made all the investments needed to provide 100 Mbps Internet on its 100th anniversary.
Due to the so far investments, which exceed 150 million Euros, is realized the move to Next Generation Network (NGN). ALBtelecom is becoming one of the first telecommunications operators in Europe that is fully completing this process of transition to modern technology. ALBtelecom expresses determination to invest further, so that all Albanians wherever they are, be able to benefit from the continuous advantages offered by the fixed and mobile telephone and internet services.
With ALBtelecom’s modern infrastructure in place, the government has also successfully launched the project E-government (Gov.Net) and the project of internet in schools. All schools in Albania are equipped with broadband Internet access from ALBtelecom, and now this company is able to support all the connectivity needs of the Albanian economy, households, businesses, government institutions and also other operators.
